ReMA Language and Cognition
Research Master Language
and Cognition
After five years of studying, I still didn’t
know which Master to apply for. After visiting several open days in Utrecht,
Amsterdam and Groningen it still was not clear for me. The regular
Communication Science Master in Groningen, Intercultural Communication in
Utrecht or Corporate Communication in Amsterdam? In April, I received an email
from Tom Koole with the question whether I was interested in research. Since I
had no clue whatsoever about what to do after my Bachelor, I decided to attend
the information session about the Research Master Language and Cognition and
became inspired.
The ReMa is a selective two-year Master
program, which focuses on (the name says it all) research. In the first year,
you will have courses in Basic Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Statistics and
Designing your Research Project. Next to the compulsory courses, you can choose
three electives from the regular CIS program. In the second year, you will go
abroad for a Research Internship. This July, I will go to Stellenbosch, South
Africa for a Research Internship for 5 months! In the second semester, you will
write your Master thesis.
I am really glad that I applied for the ReMa.
Not in a million years I would have thought that research is my cup of tea, but
I actually really like it!
Good to know: To apply for the ReMa there are
some admission requirements and you have to apply before the 1st of
May! You can find more information on the website of the RUG!
